        Rotary tool with one or more teeth for milling. Each knife tooth intermittently cuts the surplus of the work piece in turn. Milling cutters are mainly used for machining planes, steps, grooves, forming surfaces and cutting off workpieces on milling machines.
 
        There are several commonly used types of milling cutters for different applications. 1 Cylindrical milling cutter: used for horizontal milling machine processing plane. The cutter teeth are distributed on the circumference of the cutter and are divided into two types: straight gear and helical gear. According to the number of teeth are divided into two kinds of coarse and fine teeth. The helical tooth coarse tooth milling cutter has a small number of teeth, high tooth strength, large chip space, suitable for rough machining, and fine tooth milling cutters are suitable for finishing. 2 face milling cutter: used for vertical milling machine, face milling machine or gantry milling machine processing plane, both end face and circumference have knife teeth, but also coarse and fine teeth points. Its structure has three types: integral type, insert type and indexable type. 3 End milling cutter: used for machining grooves, step surfaces, etc. The cutter teeth are on the circumference and end faces and cannot be fed axially when working. When the end mill passes through the center end teeth, it can be axially fed. 4 Three-blade cutter: It is used for machining all kinds of grooves and step surfaces. There are cutters on both sides and on the circumference. 5 angle milling cutter: used to mill into a certain angle of the groove, there are two kinds of single-angle and double-angle milling cutter. 6 Saw blade cutters: used to machine deep grooves and cut off workpieces with more teeth on the circumference. In order to reduce the friction during milling, the sides of the teeth have an auxiliary declination of 15′ to 1°. In addition, there are keyway milling cutters, dovetail milling cutters, T-slot milling cutters, and various forming cutters.
 
        The structure of the milling cutter is divided into four types. 1 Integral: body and knife teeth made one. 2 Overall welding tooth type: The tooth is made of cemented carbide or other wear resistant tool material and brazed to the body. 3 Insert tooth type: The tool teeth are fastened to the body by mechanical clamping. This replaceable tooth can be a tool head of an overall tool material or a tool head of a welding tool material. The milling cutter with the cutter head mounted on the cutter body is called a body-grinding type; the cutter head is individually sharpened on the fixture and is called an external cutter type. 4 indexable (see indexable tools): This structure has been widely used in face milling cutters, end mills and three-blade cutters.
 
        Milling cutters are divided into two types according to the method of tooth back processing. 1 Sharp-toothed milling cutter: Grinding a narrow land on the back to form the relief angle. Due to the reasonable cutting angle, its life is higher. There are three types of straight teeth, curved lines and broken lines on the back of the sharp tooth cutter. Straight tooth backs are often used for fine-toothed finishing cutters. The tooth strength of the curves and the back of the fold line is good, and can withstand heavier cutting loads. It is often used for coarse tooth milling cutters. 2 Spade cutter: The back of the cutter is machined into the back of the Archimedean spiral by means of a spade (or spatula) method.
